yoga at soma

Yoga at Soma is a physical practice, yet it is more than just a fitness work-out, it is an educational process of joining mind with body, revealing a sense of freedom and wholeness in being. As the mind lets go of its conflict with the body, a transformation can take place: inner conflict surrenders to inner peace,      confusion transforms to understanding and acceptance replaces resistance.

Styles of Yoga

iyengar yoga

Iyengar Yoga emphasizes alignment: of mind with body, of intellect with senses and of muscles with bones in order to establish freedom in movement and being. This physical practice incorporates a strong mental component, emphasizing the mind’s ability to “shed light” on the inner body through felt perception, conscious awareness and practical understanding. Iyengar yoga is known for its rehabilitative aspects as well as its ability to be tailored to individual needs.

classical yoga

Classical yoga, also known as Raja Yoga, is the yoga of the Sutras of Patanjali, and dates back two thousand years. Classical yoga focuses on balancing a strong, healthy body with a focused and content mind, deepening our understanding of self, and the world around us. These classical yoga classes include vinyasa krama (intelligent progression), pose variations and break-downs, and simple pranayama and meditation. Expect to break a sweat, but not to become exhausted.
